12:43 6/10/24 I’m diagnosed with Vascular Dementia. I’m still functional but the right word alludes me, names are buried, and times and dates escape into the ethers. I wonder what will happen next all right. I’m still able to be the caregiver for my husband with other issues. Everyday is a gift, yet sometimes I wonder how much more I can handle. There is a plan for me and us. Positive thinking will keep me going.

Memory Care worker here! I’m a dietary aide for the MC unit at one of my city’s retirement homes, and have been employed here since October 2018. My job is to essentially deliver food to MC, as well as maintain the mini-kitchens in located down there. Despite not being an actual caregiver that’s with them all day, I have experienced many things, happy and sad. Hell I’ve even been punched in the stomach by a resident for refusing to let her into the kitchen, and I’d bet many people would be surprised how painful a gut punch from a very thin, roughly 5’2” elderly woman can be (for context, this was last year when I was about 5’5” and ~120lbs at age 20). Your perspective changes **drastically** once you’ve actually worked with people affected by dementia. There are so many residents over the years who’ve left me with fond memories before they passed away or moved to a different facility. The hardest part of working in memory care, in my opinion, is witnessing just how rapidly a resident’s health can decline. Numerous times when we’ve had a new resident in MC, they’re confused and scared, as they’re in someplace new without anyone they know. One woman, for instance, moved in last year. She’d been just skiing with her family the month prior. She was so lost and lonely, begging us to take her home, even offering to pay us money. And the situations don’t end there. Questions like how much dinner costs, if the sports were on or if we played bingo that night, what day of the week it was, where the elevator/stairs were (MC is one floor), and many others. Sometimes people forget that the way we view the world isn’t the same as how it’s viewed by individuals living with dementia, and there are often times where I wonder what my residents see, so as to understand them better and make it known that I know what they’re talking about. If anyone has questions, I’ll try to reply to the best of my ability!

My mother has very advanced Alzheimer’s and is in hospice. It is making me so sad that my mother, who was a very vibrant and strong woman, is withering away because of this ugly beast.

Well done Anita I lost my wife to Dementia last August on her birthday after 57 Years of marriage I hope that your song raises lots of money for Alzheimer’s to help find a cure for this horrible disease losing a loved one is bad enough but to lose one with dementia is to my mind even worse when they don’t know you God Bless You

It can't help that so many of your houses in the UK look identical! And so do many of the streets. I know people get lost here in Australia after getting muddled up from dementia but even I would be confused in that area of the UK. Added to that, I have face-blindness (prosopagnosia) so I had no idea that the second man in the video was someone else too!

WHY IS THIS NOT VIRAL YET

My grandma has dementia and keeps asking about her older sister who died almost 20 years ago. It hurts to hear...she always needs to be reminded what day it is, sometimes can't tell who's who, or remember what she did a few hours ago. But she still has her late sister's phone number memorized. I take care of her once a week and it feels so weird because it's like our roles have reversed. I make her the same food she used to make me as a kid but she doesn't know how to make it anymore. I try to spend as much time with her as I can but watching what's happening to her is hard. At least once a day she'll start crying because she suddenly remembers that grandpa died but then an hour later she'll be in a cheery mood. Sometimes she switches between English and Portuguese because she can't remember who she's talking to. She keeps saying that God is punishing her for her "sins" and I'm like "what sins? You haven't done anything wrong" but she still thinks she deserved this somehow. I really hope I don't get dementia because it's heartbreaking enough from the outside, I can't imagine the mental torment she's going through and I don't want that to happen to me. Sorry for the venting, I just needed to get it out there

Des' I too am young with Lewy Body my symptoms started at 57 with forgetting now it's bouts of strong anxiety and sleeping. I will be 60 in the fall. I look forward to the day when all is new I believe in God's word the Bible and it's promises Revelation 21:3,4 Psalms 37: 11,29

I feel like what makes this so impactful is how much more terrifying it would be for this to happen in a middle age setting. Imagine someone getting dementia in an era where there were no doctors, hospitals, advances in science, therapists, or anyone with the qualities or experience to properly diagnose what was wrong with them. They would just be deemed insane, cursed, or some sort of unholy being and be sentenced to prison / death. Yet the princess was courageous enough to stay by his side for the rest of their lives regardless of the heartbreak it brought both of them. We've all seen psa's before but this helps to recontextualizes the situation in a way that leaves you completely heartbroken and left thinking about what you just witnessed. It's truly better than like 95% of the slop Hollywood has made in the last 10 years.
